Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae Review

Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae (MKH) is an arena-based hack and slash game. You fight off waves of enemies in a handful of different arenas, which culminates in a boss battle.

MKH is a game that exemplifies style over substance. It’s all about long combos and elaborate fight choreography. The graphics are decent for an indie game, but nothing special. The main draw for players will be the ability to pull off 500 hit combos with a dozen different abilities all chained together. It is more of a power fantasy game than one built around challenging combat. You can play on the harder difficulties if that’s what you are looking for, but on normal difficulty, the game is fairly casual.

The actual gameplay loop of MKH is quite bland. You just kill waves of enemies over and over. There is some story, but it is such an afterthought that it might as well not be in the game. The enemy design is straightforward, but uninteresting. You will also be required to grind for upgrades, so if you don’t enjoy the combat, it will get boring quickly. It’s the type of game where it only takes 20 minutes to figure out if you will like it or not. Because of this, I think people should give it a shot if they are interested. You can always get a refund on steam if it doesn’t turn out to be your type of game. Overall, MKH has a specific style of gameplay that won’t appeal to most players, but will be a great fit for a select few.
