Safety First! is a physics-based puzzle game in which you only have control over the feet of your character. You are tasked with peeing on cables to repair them, but the catch is that the cables becoming increasingly hard to get to.
The game’s presentation is fairly weak. The graphics look like a free web game, although for such a cheap game, it’s excusable. Visually, it isn’t terrible, just simple. It helps keep the puzzles easy to understand, so it’s at least utilitarian. The sound design is equally rough around the edges. Sound effects and voice acting are low quality and feel amateur. Even with all these issues, it doesn’t impact your enjoyment much because it’s a puzzle game. Most of the focus will be on gameplay rather than the visuals or audio.
When it comes to puzzles, Safety First! is almost an action-puzzle game, due to the fact that you have to control your character without pausing or using some sort of turn-based system. Instead, gameplay revolves around 2 different elements: controlling your character and planning your route. Initially, there aren’t even any puzzles, you just focus on moving your character through the level. As the game progresses, the levels start to require more thinking and planning. It never gets overly complex, but it adds some variety to the game.
Safety First! does a good job of blending challenging physics with light puzzle elements, creating a unique game that isn’t great, but has enough good moments to be worth buying on sale, provided that this style of game appeals to you.
