Red Riding Hood – Star Crossed Lovers is an adventure/hidden object game with a unique take on the classic fairy tale.
I won’t be getting into major spoilers, but the game has a pretty bizarre premise. Immediately upon starting the game, it is revealed that in this version of the story, the “Big Bad Wolf” is actually a werewolf. As you can probably guess from the title, this game is a love story between the werewolf and Red Riding Hood. It’s weird and the story in general is poorly written. There are numerous lines of dialogue that are either poorly translated to English from another language or riddled with typos. Still, I found myself enjoying the story as a campy B-Movie. Unfortunately, outside of the ridiculous plot, there isn’t much fun to be had.
The gameplay is basic, even for a hidden object game. Hidden object scenes are reused multiple times to pad out the length, which still only comes out to about an hour. The art for these scenes looks fine, but it’s certainly nothing special or game-changing. The game’s puzzles are all familiar and don’t offer anything new to the genre. It isn’t the worst hidden object game I’ve played, but it’s one of the most forgettable (not including the storyline).
The price makes the game a little more palatable, but it still feels like a waste of time. I would only recommend it to someone that absolutely loves the genre, as well as someone that can enjoy a campy storyline. I just don’t see this game having much appeal outside of that group of people.
