Monster Prom is a dating simulator with a unique multiplayer system. Most dating sims are long, narrative focused games that you are intended to play a few times at most. In contrast, Monster Prom is a party game that barely lasts an hour with 4 people. To compensate, there are dozens of endings you can get and a huge variety of individual events that can occur each game. The game largely revolves around you attempting to court one of your classmates and go to prom with them. You answer simple multiple choice prompts and try to tailor your responses to what they want to hear. It isn’t particularly unique, but it gets the job done.
The main fun comes from the multiplayer elements. There are multiple ways to sabotage someone else’s relationship, giving it a Mario Party vibe when playing with a few friends. There will be a lot of alliances, backstabbing and strategy involved, making each game feel unique.
The game’s biggest fault is the writing. The humor is extremely hit or miss, ranging from genuinely great moments to cringe worthy garbage. Usually, the writing is a little corny but still bearable thanks to how fun the gameplay is. Unfortunately, it is the only thing holding Monster Prom back from being a great game. It is still very fun to play with friends, just expect a few eye rolls once the jokes start up.
