Go Go Nippon My First Trip to Japan is a mix of an educational visual novel and a romantic visual novel. The educational side of the game is focused on explaining different pieces of Japanese culture, as well as important facts that would help you when traveling to Japan. This is easily the game’s strong point, and is possibly the game’s only positive element. The non-educational portions are full of cringe worthy dialogue in which the main character (you) delivers awkward lines about how they are a man of honor and would never disrespect a woman, all while they creepily try to get a look at the female characters’ nude bodies. It is such a weird juxtaposition of educational moments that feel straight out of a textbook, and a creepy “gentleman” that keeps talking about how much of a nice guy he is. The game lets you choose who to romance, but no matter who you wind up with, the romance is weird and off-putting. The protagonist’s internal monologue is full of weird and creepy lines that make him very unlikable. If you can look past all of those issues, the game has a decent amount of info for people interested in traveling to Japan, but if you don’t particularly care to learn about Japan, this is a terribly written visual novel.
