Dreaming Sarah is a platformer in which you play through the dreams of a girl in a coma. This takes the form of fantastical and unusual level design that is consistently varied.
The levels you encounter will range from standard platforming environments like a forest, to more unique places like the surface of a planet. Most environments, outside of the starting area, will have specific gimmicks and mechanics that are related to their theme.
Gameplay-wise, Dreaming Sarah is pretty standard for an adventure platformer. You collect an assortment of items that give you access to new levels, these new levels contain new items, unlocking more new levels, etc. Dreaming Sarah doesn’t stray much from this formula, focusing most of its effort on interesting level deaign.
The main source of fun in Dreaming Sarah is encountering weird or unexpected level design, rather than the platforming itself. The plot is barely there, and might as well not exist. It’s a fun game for fans of simple adventure platformers who want to try out some interesting levels, but won’t be hard enough or inventive enough to please the more “hardcore” fans of the genre.
